Best laid plans of mice and moms

Published by pianogeek at 12:50 pm under Life in General Edit This

img_0706.JPGToday was not an usual day.  I had to take my son to the dentist early in the morning, that ended up being an hour gone out of my day that I didn’t account for, followed by breakfast, and  exercising the dog.  Followed by my son’s meltdown over his inability to eat with the new metal spacer AND the embarrassment of having metal spacer’s in his mouth to begin with, followed by school work.

I finally got to the computer at 11:30,  to check my earnings and answer emails and to begin writing an article.  As I sat fingers perched over the keys to start my first sentence, the ringing of the phone jarred me back to present time.  It was my mom, telling me about what was going on with her.  I stayed polite and listened and offered advice when she asked and an hour later I was hanging up the phone.

I went to check to see how my son was doing with his school work and he had not gotten very far and blamed it on listening to the conversation I was having with my mom.

A couple of hours later,  I was no closer to getting my article written.  I won’t bore you with all the details, but at one point, I pictured myself checked into a motel room alone, furiously typing on my laptop, as empty candy wrappers laid by my feet.

Seven hours later, I send my son off to bed and as my fingers were once again reading to type, the dog slid up next to me  and started whining.  She needed to go out.  This will take only a minute, I thought and as I let her out and sat down again at my computer, fingers typing the thought in my head,  my son came in to ask whether Pinocchio’s dad was eaten by a whale.

I got a lot done today, none of it had to do with freelance writing, but a lot to do with life in general.
